I had an absolutely amazing week end. Thanks a lot to the organizers for putting this together for us. While I love the Warmachine events and community across the world, I still have to say that the French one is something special.

On the organisational side, I love that we eat together without everyone heading out, the terrain and scenario setup without changing between rounds was a great idea and the whole thing was just really well run. Thanks a lot :)
The inclusiveness is great and camaraderie in the FR community is really great. I enjoyed seeing everyone again and catching up and adding another chapter to my many great memories with you guys.
Zaadesh enjoyed catching up with Legion as well.

Commence: Google Traduction:

Round 6 Macvin eeStryker vs Enemo:

EDIT: Google Translate in next post!!

Hey guys,

It was great to see everyone this week end, I had an amazing time. Thanks a lot tripple1, Zerg and Waffleman. I really appreciate you guys spending all this time on making this week end a reality. Thanks you to Zoro as well and to Joss for lending me some missing models.

I ended 3-3, here is a short recap:
Round 1, Manu74 Legion, Absylonia vs Siege:
He played the archangel and 2 beasts along with full gatormen posse. I felt that with Sieges feat i would be able to kill the gatormen and either the 2 beasts or the Archangel. I managed to take out the full posse and 1 beast but left his Angelius on 1 hit point. He feated and healed up to full, but had still lost too much of his army to recover, as the Archangel couldnt get close to the Stormwall. I assassinated Absylonia shortly after. It was a pretty tense and fun match.

Round 2 MrGob Legion, Absylonia vs Siege:
He played 4 beasts which was a considerably worse matchup for me. Again, I counted on taking out 2 beasts under feat and having him unable to recover. I *again* left an Angelius on 1 hit point, after missing both the boosted attack rolls with Siege. This made the match super tense and he made a great move running the Typhon to the far right flag rather than engaging in the attrition. I end by losing on scenario after i spend too long dealing with his other beasts. Great game and well played by my opponent.

Round 3 Sechs_07 Makeda1 vs Sturgis:
I was really excited about this matchup. I\ve been looking forward to playing my Sturgis list and felt he was a good drop no matter which list Seches_07 picked. Additionally I have watched a lot of ChainAttack videos, so I knew what all his models did, which is pretty rare.
Stormwall faces off against Mammoth on the right side, the first who advances will get hit hard. My initial shots do high rolls and Sechs07 decides to keep Mammoth back and shooting. On the left my dwarves are swarming the zone. Molik Karn dances in on the left, kills 4 dwarves and fate walkers back at the end of the turn. Unfortunately he has blocked his own retreat with nihilators and Molik can't cross the fence. Sturgis pulls him close and the dwarves kill Molik Karn. Sechs_07 takes a high risk as he wont be able to deal with the left side by now, and involves Makeda in the fight. Alexia has stocked up on Risen and charges Makeda on my following turn for the assassination. This was another great game I really enjoyed.

Round 4 Markus Legion eVayl vs Sturgis:
I hadn't played vs eVayl before and in my head I'm playing against eLylyth. I blame the wine. He gave me an Angelius in trade for damage on Stormwall and I pull the other Angelius close the same turn, killing them both. Having lost almost nothing so far, I'm in a very strong position and Sturgis is hiding behind a house. Markus makes a well executed assassination run and gets the dice to pull it off (double obliteration and a ravagore). I think I played the match very well, but would need to face eVayl several more times to properly understand her.

Round 5 Titou Iron Mother vs Sturgis:
I haven't played eNemo yet, but I was almost certain Titou would play his Iron Mother list and eNemo is too fragile for the matchup. I drop Sturgis again. It was a pretty intense game where he put early damage on Sturgis through Backlash. I get a turn where I kill a huge amount of his small ball-things and score 2 points. I jam his jacks with everything i can. He manages to unjam just enough and his shots all hit, assassinating Sturgis. I would have won next turn on scenario, it was a very close game. Well played by Tinkou.

Round 6 MacVin eeStryker vs eNemo:
I'm locked in to playing eNemo and tells him so before list selection. I'm surprised he picks eeStryker as he is on a large base, in a killbox scenario against an assassination list. On turn 2 I feat, energizer and put a bunch of Charger shots into Stryker. There wasn't really that much to say to this one, it was a short game ending a very long week end. I'm looking forward to another game against MacVin and to try a longer match vs eeStryker.

All my opponents were great to play against, I really had a good time. It was a pleasure, thank you all :)

7
Hey guys I'm arriving in Lyon on Friday at 14.30. Does anyone want to take a game or two in Trollune on Friday afternoon?

I appreciate it Q2! Unfortunately my different model count is super low  :o

10
Ok thanks for the clarification.

I only have to play each list a minimum of one time over the 6 matches, right?

I have double checked with the Irish guys and they can't make it unfortunately. You will see them at the WTC instead :)

11
Salut a tous.

How will this part play out? I understood the piece about the groups of 4 people for the first 3 rounds, but im unsure exactly how this will work:

A partir de la quatrième ronde, les joueurs seront affectés à des tableaux d’appariement
en fonction de leurs résultats en matchs de poules. Chaque position finale dans un
tableau correspondra à une position finale dans le classement général.

Merci :)

12
Hey guys, is the limit at 48 participants set in stone? I have some good friends (and good players :)) from Ireland who have expressed interest in joining, but they would need to know well in advance in order to arrange the trip.

13
Pré inscription en liste d'attente :)

Hey guys!
Thanks for a great event, I really had a good time :)
I will provide a short recap of my games as well:

My first match-up was against Sechs and Siege stared down eVayl. I had shifted gun mages into the list specifically because I wanted to deal better with stealth shenanigans and was very glad I did. It was a great game where the balance swung wildly every turn. I killed 7 Hex Hunters on my first turn, he killed a huge amount of stuff on his next turn, then it swung back in my favour, and at this point his best option was to go for assassination because he fell too far behind on attrition (thank you hammer dwarves). Assassination failed and then I killed Vayl. Great game and fun opponent.

Next up was Cryxfactory with his Ret army and I picked Siege again. I unfortunately know very little about Ret, and didn't realize his entire list was focused on assassination. I make a placement mistake with my caster already on my first turn and pay for it with a turn 2 assassination. Well executed by Cryxfactory and a good reminder for me that I really need to get more time in front of certain factions... and stop doing stupid mistakes. A bit disappointing after having played a strong game 1.

Merco brought forward Drake McBain and I pulled out eStryker. I was happy with this matchup, as I feel eStryker has an advantage in the attrition and I wouldn't get shot off the board during the advance. We both run on our first turns and on my turn 2 I get to live The Sword Knight Dream. eStryker casts Positive charge on a Lancer which charges Merco's Nomad. Then 4-5 Sword knights with Path Finder from Runewood charge and get the Flank bonus + Charge bonus + Positive Charge bonus. THE DREAM! They 1 round the Nomad and after that the game turns into a grind fest with a lot of casualties on both sides. Merco times out in the end, where I am up 2 scneario points. It was fun :D

Last game was against PA playing eSorcha and I brought out Siege again. It was a great and very intense game, which could really have swung either way for the longest time. In the end I made a couple of mistakes though that cost me the game. I think it was a mix of "end of the day" and going on tilt due to a previous turn of very bad dice (PA had his own taste of that so it balanced out). But I think I let it affect my gameplay as these were mistakes I wouldn't normally make, so that's a great takeaway for things to improve on. As he mentioned we made a mistake on the scenario scoring, which gives me even more appetite for a rematch :)

I really had a fun day, thanks to all my opponents for making it great. Thanks to TO, Uchronies Games and the rest of the participants as well for a great ambiance and smooth tournament. See you at 50 points!

Hah! I'd say both... I've gotten some games in but im averaging at less than one per month unfortunately, so it's hard to keep the skills honed :)

I did get to go to 2x 25 pts tourneys in Paris the last few months. In one I went 3-1 and in the other I went 1-3, so you decide ;)

Been har at work with the painting though (and still am!!).

19
Looking forward to it! I'm looking to participate again and will come with a Danish Troll friend :D

« le: 07 février 2013 à 00:00:11 »
I'll add my 2 pts (in English, sorry).

Excellent tournament overall, I had a great time. It's only the second tourney I attend for Warmachine and this one lived up to my experience in Lyon last year: Cool, likeminded players who are there to have a great day. Everything was well organised, good food and clear instructions on how things were going to run and intense games that weren't decided until the very end. It should be said that with my limited experience, I had not played against any of the casters I met and actually not even against any of those factions. Everyone was really good with explaining me their lists and caster abilities.

Game 1 Siege vs Barnabas (LeMercenaire)
I hadn't met the gatormen posses before but had a good idea that this was a tough matchup for me, with my high amount of infantry. I chose the Siege list as I didn't know/think about the casting of pools and not being able to shoot his caster. Seeing that I couldn't rely on assassination, I decided to play aggressively and to feat early for a ranged alpha strike. I feated on the top of turn 2 and cleared 6 gators and put 17 damage on the Wrastler. An extremely effective feat turn that turned the odds in my favor. I kept the upper hand in the following turns, but finishing off the Wrastler took longer than I hoped (he snacked my knights) and I had to commit Siege to finish him off. I wasn't too concerned as I was well protected and he had like 5 models left on the table. Barnabas feated so all my stuff got knocked down and cast a bunch of spells on Siege, one of the last standing gatormen that had been tied up in melee charged and finished Siege off on his very last attack. Very close and very enjoyable game.

Lessons learned:
I could have blocked the charge lane of the gatorman by running with Reinholdt and Squire and I actually thought about doing that but thought I was safe. The lesson is to always sacrifice non-critical units at the very end of the game, to make the enemys only chance just a little bit harder to pull off. Good lesson!
Learned how Blindwater functions. Would love to try the same game with my other list, to better understand the strengths and weaknesses.

Game 2 Siege vs Krueger (Yool)
Another tough matchup! Again, I didn't know the faction, and my inability to shoot his druids & caster + his sprays on my knights made this one really hard. My army was ground down and things didn't really work out as I hoped. In a last ditch effort I moved slam his warpwolf through his caster and then shoot him to death. Unfortunately the wolf was within the anti magic druid field and now Siege was in the middle of the board, alone. I took my shots at Krueger with everything I had and brought him to 3 health (but he had transfers available). On his turn he killed various stuff and pulled Siege even closer and knocked him down (again!). Warpwolf went in for the kill but didn't manage it. Krueger charged in with only 1 fury on him after casting magic wings (or something) and in his two attacks didn't manage to finish off Siege who was on the ground with 2 hp left. As he mentioned above, he would certainly have killed him if he had cut himself for 2 extra fury. Siege stood up and took off the 3 remaining hit points on Krueger with his hammer.

Lessons learned: I need way more experience against Circle. I was demolished like no other game and don't know if my other list would have done better (that's what I want to know). I may try to have a more jack heavy list as my second list next time. I think I should have dropped trying to shoot him (too hard to hit) and gone melee with my Defender earlier.

Game 3 Siege vs Vyros (Tinkou)
I had turn 1 and I ran forward. He ran forward as well over an open field. I moved Siege forward, feated and killed Vyros in 2 shots from Siege. Those were the only attacks made in the game. It was pretty short but I was getting really tired due to sore throat/bad cold so i didnt mind the break.

Lesons learned: Siege is #1 mage hunter. Retribution could learn from him.

Game 4 Siege vs Butcher (Aspharoth)
Meeting a list full of Man O'Wars (high armor, slow speed) is like a dream come true for my Siege list. Very favourable matchup. I moved up early, feated and cast Thunder Hammer on his Juggernaught, slamming it into butcher. I shot butcher a few times for good measure. Great fun ensued as my rangers killed manowars on 5+ on the damage so they cleaned out 1 unit while my Precursor knights took out 3 in the other unit. The situation quickly became tricky though, because during the slam, Butcher had been moved forward and out of the forest due to "Least disturbance". I had learned from my game 1 and ran a bunch of stuff in front of Siege to make the risk of assassination lower. He did a good job of cleaning it out but made a few critical errors and didn't manage the assassination leaving Siege at 5 hits. I could probably have won this one on scenario, but with Siege that low it was too risky (he still had 4 widowmakers up) so I killed off Butcher and ended on 3 CP.

Lessons learned: Moving your caster too far forward when you're winning is probably the most common mistake in the game. I should have stayed farther back, I would still have range on my spells and shots and would run lower risk. Not the first time I take this lesson!
I could have moved even more stuff in front of Siege, but I didn't properly identify his most likely win options on my next-to-last turn. I'm glad I did it to a degree on a hunch though, or his widowmakers would have killed me.

Other note:
The reason I played Siege every time is that I didn't really know any of my opponents lists or factions, so I couldn't make a proper choice. I went with what I was most familiar with (have only played a couple of games with eStryker) and the list that had no proxies.
All in all I ended 3-1 after an intense day with great games. With the next-highest amount of army points destroyed, I feel that a proper amount of carnage was delivered :)

Other lessons learned:
"Enemy" objectives are affected by Siege's feat. I forgot this several times and it cost me some CPs.
Tiebreakers will be based on CP next time so I'll have to make more effort on those. I don't think theres anything I would have done differently this time though.
Got practice in playing fast. I was happy that none of my games went to time and that I didn't run out of time any game.
All my opponents were great. The Warmachine and Hordes crowd in the Paris region is awesome - I had a fantastic day. I will definitely be back for more, once I have saved up enough family-points.

Thanks,
Zargar

Does anyone have painted eStryker and/or painted Ol'Rowdy I can borrow at the tourney? I've been in painting camp the last weeks to get ready but I am still missing these 2 models (and finishing my rangers). I would hate to do a really bad job on 2 characters in order to meet the deadline, so if anyone has 1 or both I can borrow that would be much appreciated.

Citer
If a player’s War Room device fails during a game, and the information cannot be recovered in a timely manner, the player concedes that game.
Lol

Yeah, sounds pretty harsh but I don't see how else it could be handled really. Definitely not good promotion :D
I'll add though, that I've run it on iPad 1 since the release and while there are some crashed occasionally (goes for every app on iPad 1 at this point), I've never had a game be unrecoverable with just starting Warroom back up. So I think it mostly relates to running out of battery or similar. I'm happy with using Warroom overall. It has definitely come a long way since release.

24
Alright, thanks :)

I'd love to join if there is still room (not sure what AJSA means :)). If not, please put me on waiting list.
